Dublin City theatres
This is a list of Dublin's Theatres. They cover all manner of shows and productions from the classics and contemporary plays to puppetry performances. One line summaries should give you and idea of what each venue shows or specializes in.
- Abbey Theatre (Lower Abbey Street) Forth coming 2008 performances include Romeo and Juliet, Fool for Love, Circo de la Sombra and the Three Sisters.
- The Gate Theatre (1 Cavendish Row) It is mainly classics that are performed in this 200 year old theatre building.
- Gaiety Theatre (South King Street) A mix of shows from Puccini to pantomime, opera to ballet in Dublin’s oldest (1871) theatre.
- Olympia Theatre, (73 Dame St) Now over 130 years old, this theatre is a popular venue for rock and other bands, but also has theatrical productions, panto etc.
- Andrew's Lane Theatre (9-17 Andrew's Lane) Does (did) present a wide selection of performances, but I am not sure if it is still open.
- National Concert Hall (Earlsfort Terrace) This is Ireland's national theatre and it covers all kinds and styles of productions from plays to musical recitals.
- Point Theatre (East Link Bridge) Known primarily as a music venue, the point is having a massive refurbishment in 2007 and 2008 and will re-open some time in 2008.
- Vicar St. (Thomas Street) This is mainly a rock and pop music venue.
- The Helix (Collins Avenue) Big theatrical performances and ballets by the world’s premier troupes.
- Irish Film Institute (6 Eustace St) A selection of typically high brow films, many of them European foreign language productions.
- Draiocht (Blanchardstown) This is a complete arts centre with theatre, galleries and more.
- Project Arts Centre (39 East Essex Street) This is another arts centre with the Cube theatre, a gallery and a further upstairs area.
- SFX City Theatre (23 Upper Sherrard St) Offers a mix of classical and contemporary theatre and has been around for over 20 years.
- Civic Theatre (The Square) Productions include plays for adults and children, musical performances and bands with a “something for everyone” schedule of features.
- Lambert Puppet Theatre & Museum (5 Clifden Lane) Primarily for the young (or young at heart), this 300 seat theatre also has a small puppet museum.
