Hugh Lane Gallery


Hugh Lane Gallery takes its name from Sir Hugh Lane who presented the gallery with its original collection.

The gallery is in the heart of Dublin's town centre and contains approximately 2,000 pieces including works by luminaries like Monet and Renoir. The full portfolio of the gallery includes contemporary and modern art and it is regarded as one of Irelands premier collections.

In addition to the galleries permanent displays it has exhibitions of a more diverse nature with an emphasis on new technology and alternative media. It also highlights Irish art.

A further attraction of Hugh lane is the "Francis Bacon's Reece Mews Studio". Open since 2001. This artist’s studio offers a glimpse into the working life of an artist an is internationally acclaimed.

Finally, the gallery has a kids club.


Visitor tips


The gallery has variable opening times dependant upon the day of the week and it is closed all day on a Monday. Tuesday to Thursday it is open from 10.00am to 6.00pm and Friday and Saturday it closes one hour earlier. Sunday hours are 11.00am to 5.00pm.

The is no admission charge to see the permanent collection, but short term exhibitions may include a charge.
