Dublin Weekend Break
Travelling to Dublin port by ferry
Dublin has the largest port in Ireland and it is well serviced by a number of different ferry operators who provide up to sixteen daily passages connecting Dublin with Holyhead, Liverpool and Douglas (Isle of Man). A selection of Dublin's current ferry operators are listed below (information correct as of Novemeber 2007).
- Irish ferries (The vessels "Cruise Ferry" and "Dublin Swift" each sail to and from Hollyhead twice a day)
- Isle of Man Steam Packet Company (Service operated by "Emeraude", France)
- P & O Irish Sea (Two trips daily except Mondays and Sundays when there is only one sailing)
- Norfolkline Ferry Service (Liverpool to Dublin - 12 trips per week)
- Stena Line (Dublin to Hollyhead)
Dublin Ferry crossing times and costs
Liverpool to Dublin takes approximately 7 hours.
The Isle of Man to Dublin takes approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes.
As an example of ferry fares, a single car and driver starts at 85 euros on P & O Ferries and a 2 berth cabin starts from 35 euros (as of early 2008).
Daytime sailings tend to be cheaper than night time sailings and the more flexible you are with your arrival and departure times the cheaper your total ticket costs will be.
You generally need to check-in 1 hour and 15 minutes before boarding and ferries can leave a few minutes early, so beware.
In order to get the best deal for your needs you need to check out two or three different operators. You should be able to find suitable ads on this and other pages of Dublin Weekend Break.
Once on a ferry operator's page, always look out for anything saying "special offers", "seasonal offers", "special deals" or "group offers" etc, this usually provide the best value for money.
